Plexi

In a world where everything is seen and distorted, it feels like my identity is composed of people's perception, which at times feels inauthentic to myself. I am seen and interpreted by people's perspectives, with a personality shifting and altering to meet the demands on society's expectations. These screen prints on plexiglass, derived from my own photos, are this in visual form. While a specific image is printed, depending on the viewer's perspective, stance, and distance to the piece, the image morphs and changes; the meaning is then in the viewer's hands. Similarly, there is no paper to absorb the paint, so with a scratch or drop, the piece can disappear and chip away with time, similarly to my appearance and identity. How do we hold space for culture and influence but not let it taint and break our actual selves.
